Scott Gardner gave his thoughts after seeing his young Leeds United side defeated away from home on Saturday lunchtime.
Nottingham Forest scored the only goal of the game inside the first 10 minutes, and the Whites couldn’t get back on level terms with their hosts despite plenty of chances.
“I thought we were disappointing first half,” Gardner explained at full-time.
“We had a lot of possession but didn’t create anything meaningful.
“We were a bit slow in everything we did, then they got the goal from an individual error which cost us.
“After half time, I felt we dominated and we were unfortunate not to get something from the game with the chances that we had.
“We were much better second half and I was really happy with the way we started to play our way.”
Leeds found an opposition goalkeeper in excellent form, being denied on plenty of occasions in the second half, including an impressive penalty save.
Gardner said: “We’re disappointed with the result, but in terms of our reaction and performance in the second half we’re pleased.
“We started to implement the things we had worked on previously was pleasing to see, against a very direct side.
“The missed penalty came from stuff that we lacked in the first half, which was more intensity and movement.
“It wasn’t just that one in terms of the opportunities we didn’t take, so there is still more to work on.”
