Leeds United Under-18s head coach Scott Gardner spoke to leedsunited.com following Saturday’s victory over Burnley.

Morten Spencer’s deflected strike earned Leeds a second victory of the season in the Premier League North.

Gardner gave his assessment of the game and was pleased with his sides performance, particularly after the break.

“I thought the first half was a little bit scrappy, but it was good to go in one-nil up at half-time,” said Gardner.

“For the most part of the second half I felt we controlled the game and we should really have put it to bed with three really good opportunities we had.

“We stuck to the game plan and how we wanted to play, they went a bit more direct, but we mopped it up and I thought the lads at the back were excellent in the second half and hopefully it’s the first clean sheet of many.”

Gardner also reflected on the season as a whole so far, admitting he has been pleased overall.

He said: “We’ve analysed the first four games and the performances have been excellent.

“One thing we have lacked is the cutting edge at both ends of the pitch and we had a little bit of that again today.

“Everything we’ve seen, especially with some players stepping up to Under-23s football this week, you can see the identity and the way the club want to play and the consistency has been better.

“We want to continue pushing players and giving them opportunities.”
