Leeds United Women confirmed the signing of 21-year-old attacker, Sandra Soares-Martins.
Following a successful trial period with the club which allowed Soares-Martins to showcase her talents, the young forward has now signed permanently with Dan O’Hearne’s side.
“It feels great, it’s definitely an honour to play for this club considering the history,” Soares-Martins stated after signing.
“I feel Leeds United is the right club for me, because I can progress here, I can develop my game further and I feel we have the right team to help me achieve.
“It’s a passionate club, the fanbase is amazing, it’s a historic club to be part of and I hope we can continue with that tradition.”
Having grown up in Portugal and represented other clubs so far in her early career, Sandra gave us an insight into her journey to this point and what we can expect to see from her as a player.
She said: “I would like to think others would describe me as a player that likes to take on the opposition.
“I also have a few skills which I feel can help me get round defenders, and I am definitely a member of the team who is always up for a laugh as well!
“I was born in Portugal, so my career began there.
“I played for my local team, then I progressed and came to the United Kingdom. I joined a couple of local teams to me, then I joined Tottenham’s Development team for a season.
“I then spent more time in the game with Crystal Palace and Sheffield United, before then joining Leeds so I am really happy to be here.”
Having played in a couple of the pre-season friendly matches so far, Leeds United Women’s new number 20 is looking ahead to the season beginning.
“We want to win promotion, that’s certainly our ambition here,” Soares-Martins explained.
“I believe the league will be challenging and quite aggressive. Every game will be a test for us.
“It just feels great to be back playing, we’ve had a long pre-season and we are now ready to begin playing competitively.”
