Leeds United player Rebekah Bass recently got involved with International Women’s Day celebrations alongside the Leeds United Foundation at Selby High School, speaking with students and joining in with activities throughout the morning.
Delivered in conjunction with the FA’s Let Them Play event, all girls in different year groups had the opportunity to play football and improve their skills, with Rebekah speaking about her time in the sport so far, and the confidence and enjoyment getting involved in football can bring.
Around 180 girls took part in the activities across the morning, something Sophie Evans, a coach for the club's official charity was pleased to see.
“It was great to go into a school that I haven’t worked in before and to see so many girls engage with the event. Even though it was cold and wet, the girls got stuck in and really pushed themselves, with some of them playing for the first time and coming out with a smile on their face.
“It was lovely to have girls coming up and saying they want to get involved in football and telling me about their football journeys so far. I really enjoyed the event, and it was made even more special with the visit from Leeds United Women's player, Rebekah Bass.”
Speaking about the morning’s activities, Rebekah said: “It was great to get involved today, and to see so many girls getting involved and enjoying themselves was brilliant, especially on International Women's Day.
"The Foundation provide so many opportunities for young girls to play football, and this is just another example of that. Fingers crossed some of the students that took part today will now go on and continue to play."
