Pride Month has been celebrated throughout June to recognise and raise awareness around the LGBTQ+ community and all of the achievements they have made in the last 50 years.
Leeds United Football Club, the Foundation and Academy have all shown their support for the annual event with various educational activities and campaigns throughout the month.
With Pride Month now coming to a close for 2021, the Leeds United Foundation are pleased to showcase the video campaign launched earlier in June to find out what Pride means to people in the city of Leeds.
Taking part in the video are participants, coaches, staff and supporters of the club’s official charity, including Leeds United Women’s player Laura Bartup, TV personality Ben Shires and members from our LGBTQ+ supporter group, Marching Out Together.
Pride Month is a real celebration of LGBTQ+ communities around the world and it also a time that commemorates the important Stonewall riots that took place in 1969 to fight for gay rights.
Throughout June we have celebrated acceptance, equality, the important work being done by LGBTQ+ people, education around LGBTQ+ history and the issues affecting LGBTQ+ communities.
This video campaign helps to showcase that Pride is all about being proud of who you are, comfortable in your own skin and inclusive of people that do not share the same preferences as you. It does not matter who you love, and it is a time for communities to come together, showing how far LGBTQ+ rights have come but also how much work there is still to be done.
