Preview: Southampton vs Leeds United

A first away trip of the season.

Leeds United will play their first away match of the Premier League season on Saturday afternoon, when they take on Southampton away from home in a 3pm kick-off.

The Whites began their campaign with an entertaining opening day victory at home to Wolverhampton Wanderers. Goals from Rodrigo and then Brenden Aaronson - which was eventually credited as an own-goal - saw Jesse Marsch’s side pick up the three points.

The Saints started in an opposite manner. After going in front early on through James Ward-Prowse, Ralph Hasenhüttl’s side lost their advantage and eventually lost 4-1 against Tottenham Hotspur in North London.

Now looking to bounce back on home turf, Southampton will prove to be a tough test for Leeds in a match that will also see the players battling with intense heat on the South Coast. Drinks breaks are being introduced this weekend for the players to take on fluids, with one in each half.

When the two teams met one another last season, the saints ran out winners at St Mary’s, whilst the sides then played out a 1-1 draw at Elland Road towards the back end of the campaign.

The game has not been selected for live television coverage within the UK, but you can stay right here on leedsunited.com to follow updates throughout the 90 minutes, or alternatively listen to uninterrupted commentary on LUTV!

What has Jesse Marsch said, ahead of the match?

“For me personally, I know that going down to Southampton won't be easy and that it's going to be very hot, which will be a factor in the match. We have to manage that well. Every game in this league is a massive challenge and we have to treat it as such. So, we're not getting ahead of ourselves and we know how important each match is.”
