Preview: Leeds United Women vs Huddersfield Town Women

Whites back in action at Garforth.

Leeds United Women return to FA Women’s National League Division One North action on Sunday afternoon as they play host to Yorkshire rivals Huddersfield Town Women.

Leeds currently sit second in the league, Huddersfield third, both with a game in hand on leaders Wythenshawe Women. A win would take either side top of the table and prove a major boost to the Whites’ or the Terriers’ promotion ambitions.

United are coming off a strong 1-1 draw away to fifth place Cheadle Town Stingers, with Drew Greene netting and Amy Woodruff returning from injury. That point followed a dominant 4-0 win against Chorley Women that saw Ellie White, Chloe Dixon, Brittany Sanderson and Sian Gibrill-Keating on the scoresheet.

In October’s reverse fixture, Leeds won by a score of 1-0 thanks to a goal from Woodruff. And in Round Two of the Adobe Women’s FA Cup in November, Leeds ran out 3-1 winners at the Graham Leslie Arena thanks to goals from Gibrill-Keating, Izzy Elliott and Drew Greene.

Action from the Bannister Prentice Stadium gets underway at 2pm.

Ahead of the game, Whites defender Alayna Millard said: “We have come off two really good team performances against Chorley and Cheadle Town which have set the tone and standards for the second half of the season.

“We can use that confidence to keep our momentum going into Sunday to make sure our standards do not drop. Our goal every game is to win regardless of who we are playing.”
