Leeds United Women get their FAWNL Division One North campaign underway with a West Yorkshire derby against rivals Huddersfield Town Women at the Bannister Prentice Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
After finishing last season strongly, Simon Wood’s side have bolstered their ranks with the signing of Halifax Women’s trio Shauna Legge, Drew Greene and Ellie White, as well as welcoming back former sharpshooter Amy Woodruff and adding goalkeeping experience with Charlotte Oates.
The Whites have impressed during pre-season as preparations for this weekend’s opener stepped up a gear, notably lifting the Julie Chipchase Trophy with a deserved 3-1 victory over Doncaster Rovers Belles at the Eco-Power Stadium.
Last campaign, forward and eventual Player of the Season Jess Rousseau netted 17 league goals in just 20 starts for Leeds, including a well-taken strike in the season’s curtain raiser against Stockport County 12 months ago.
For Huddersfield, meanwhile, last campaign proved to be a difficult one in the Northern Premier Division, winning just two matches all season as they were unable to escape the drop.
The Terriers have however made a number of signings with Glen Preston’s side looking to bounce back to the third tier at the first time of asking.
Action from the Bannister Prentice Stadium gets underway at 2pm.
