Leeds United round off an exhilarating Sky Bet Championship season as they welcome Southampton to Elland Road, knowing automatic promotion is still a possibility for the Whites should results go their way.

After 45 gruelling matches of the regular season, packed with memorable highs and challenging moments too, Daniel Farke’s side go into the clash with the Saints sat in third-place, three points adrift of Ipswich Town in the final promotion spot.

United will be keen to write the wrongs from last time out, where they slipped to a heavy defeat at the hands of Queens Park Rangers at Loftus Road, with results elsewhere ensuring the drama continues until the final day.

Before losing out in the capital, Leeds had to dig deep to see out a thrilling 4-3 success over Middlesbrough, with Boro forward Emmanuel Latte Lath pulling one back late on for the hosts to set up a nervy ending to the game.

After falling behind early on, goals from Sky Bet Championship Player of the Season Crysencio Summerville, Patrick Bamford on his return to the Riverside and Italian international Wilfried Gnonto saw the Whites lead 3-2 at the break.

Dutch winger Summerville’s well-taken second, his side’s fourth, looked to have put the result beyond any doubt before Latte Lath’s late header halved the deficit, but Farke’s side held on to secure an important victory on Teesside.

Southampton's automatic promotion hopes came to a halt as the Saints fell to three consecutive defeats, starting with a 2-1 loss away against Cardiff City.

Russell Martin’s team followed that up with a heavy defeat at Leicester City, before Tyrese Campbell's first-half strike proved to be enough for Stoke City on their trip to the south coast.

The two sides have already met once this campaign, when Southampton ran out 3-1 winners at St Mary’s, despite Pascal Struijk getting on the scoresheet for the Whites.

Action from Elland Road gets underway at 12:30pm.
