Leeds United Women will be looking to secure the local bragging rights this weekend as they face rivals Huddersfield Town Women away from home.
The FA WNL Division One North clash will be held at the Accu Stadium, with Simon Wood’s side aiming to continue their unbeaten run that now stretches to five matches in all competitions.
The two most recent encounters for the Whites have come on cup duties. Firstly, an emphatic 5-2 FAWNL Cup victory over York City Ladies ensured Leeds topped the Group U standings and progressed to the knockout stages where they will face Hull City.
Last time out, attentions turned to the Adobe Women’s FA Cup where penalty shootout heroics from goalkeeper Carrie Simpson helped her team to victory over Norton & Stockton Ancients, earning a home draw with FC St Helens in the first round proper of the competition.
Leeds’ previous outing in Division One North brought a scintillating 7-0 victory over Blackburn Rovers, lifting Wood’s team up to fifth in the early season standings.
Chloe Dixon netted a brace, alongside goals from Drew and Darcie Greene, Amy Woodruff, Alice Hughes and Monique Watson on a memorable afternoon at the Bannister Prentice Stadium.
Huddersfield, meanwhile, have began the new campaign well after a summer of strong recruitment and were victorious over Norton on Teesside most recently in the league.
The Terriers followed that result up with a convincing win over Spennymoor Town in the FA Cup at the weekend and will face Wythenshawe in the next round.
Action from the Accu Stadium gets underway at 2pm.
The view from inside the camp:
Ahead of the match, attacker Drew Greene said: “We know Huddersfield will be a tough game because they always are any time that we play them. They have made some good signings this season and they have picked up good results so far.
“It is always an exciting opportunity playing at any stadium but also we know that it is going to be a tough test because obviously it will be a hard game, so going to their ground is going to be very tough.
“But I know that the team are looking forward to it so it should be a really good day. Like I said before, the main goal is to come away with the three points.”
