Preview: Burnley vs Leeds United

Whites back in action.

Turf Moor Burnley

A Saturday afternoon clash at Turf Moor awaits as Leeds United make the short journey over the Pennines to face Scott Parker’s Burnley.

The fixture marks a return to Premier League action for Daniel Farke’s men following the international break, pitting last term’s two centurions against one another.

The Whites got the upper hand on the final day of the Sky Bet Championship campaign to lift the title on goal difference over the Clarets, after both teams amassed a superb 100-point tally after stellar seasons in the second tier.

Leeds have collected eight points from their opening seven matches in the top-flight and will be keen to bounce back from a loss to Tottenham Hotspur last time out.

Despite a positive display against the North London outfit which included a first-half goal from Noah Okafor, United fell to a third defeat of the season.

In the Premier League standings, the Whites’ tally sees them sitting 15th in the table, four points clear of Burnley who find themselves in 18th.

The Clarets have won just once this season, a 2-0 victory over Sunderland in their second fixture, and collected their other point in a 1-1 draw with Nottingham Forest last month.

Since that meeting with Ange Postecoglou’s side, Burnley have fallen to defeats against Manchester City and Aston Villa.

Last season’s meeting between the two clubs in Lancashire proved to an attritional one where both defences came out on top as neither team were able to break the deadlock and the game finished goalless.

Action from Turf Moor gets underway at 3pm.

Team news:

Ahead of the meeting, Farke issued an injury update on the availability of his squad, providing positive news on attacker Daniel James and goalkeeper Lucas Perri who are in contention to feature having trained over the international break.

Willy Gnonto has recovered from a calf issue but misses the encounter due to hernia surgery whilst Noah Okafor is a doubt to start due to adductor problems.

The view from inside the camp:

Ahead of the match, in an exclusive interview with Premier League Productions, Sean Longstaff said: “It is an important game but I think every game in the Premier League is an important game.

“I think it is just a game to look at with a lot of positivity and go there and try to take three points from it. It is about building and still trying to stick to our processes and hopefully that will help us get the right outcome.”
