Leeds United take on Ipswich Town at the Portman Road on Saturday, August 26th in our latest Sky Bet Championship clash.

Ahead of the fixture, we take a look back through the years and pick out some of the players who have featured for both sides.

GK: Alex McCarthy

The 33-year-old goalkeeper joined Leeds United on loan from Reading for two months in November 2011 and made six appearances for the Whites. He returned to his parent club in January but was then sent back out on loan Ipswich Town for the remainder of the season where he played 10 times for the Suffolk club.

DEF: Leif Davis

After starting his professional career with Leeds United and playing 14 times for the club, Davis made the move to Ipswich in the summer of 2022. He was part of Kieran McKenna’s side that won promotion to the Championship as runners up last season and, so far, has made 49 appearances for the Blues and scored three goals.

DEF: Alex Bruce

Bruce featured 127 times for Ipswich from 2006 to 2010 before departing the Tractor Boys for Leeds in July 2010 for an undisclosed fee. He played 25 times in his first season with the club and scored one goal. He made just six appearances the following season due to injury and left the club at the end of the campaign.

DEF: Matt Pennington

The former Everton man was sent out on loan by the Toffees to Leeds in the summer of 2017 and played 24 times for the Whites throughout the season. Still contracted to Everton the following season, Ipswich came calling and signed the defender on loan ahead of the 2018/19 season and featured 31 times for the Tractor Boys that season and scored one goal.

MID: Toumani Diagouraga After racking up nearly 250 appearances with Brentford across League One and the Championship, Diagouraga signed for Steve Evans’ Leeds side in January 2016. He made 19 appearances during the remainder of the 2015/16 campaign but was sent out on loan the following year to Ipswich where he played 12 times for the club. His contract was mutually terminated in 2017. MID: David Norris

The midfielder spent three and a half seasons with Ipswich Town and departed the club in 2011 with 118 appearance and 16 goals to his name. Norris joined Portsmouth for one season the following year and then made the move to Yorkshire in 2012. He played 36 times for the Whites and netted four goals before leaving in February 2015. MID: Ian Westlake Westlake began his footballing career with Ipswich and made his professional debut in October 2002 for his boyhood club. He went on to rack up 125 appearances in all competitions for the Tractor Boys before Leeds snapped up the midfielder in August 2006. He scored twice in 53 appearances for the Whites. MID: Jonathan Douglas

Douglas originally joined Leeds on loan from Blackburn Rovers in the summer of 2005 and made 40 league appearances en route to the Championship play-off final. He signed a permanent deal the following season and stayed with the club for a further three seasons until he departed for Swindon Town in 2009. The midfielder made 166 appearances for Leeds and netted 11 times. He later joined Ipswich in 2015 and spent two seasons in Suffolk. He left the club in 2017 with 62 appearances and three goals to his name.

ATT: Luke Varney

Neil Warnock secured Varney’s signature for Leeds in 2012 and the forward would go on to spent a season and a half with the club. He scored on his competitive debut against Shrewsbury Town and also against Tottenham Hotspur in Leeds’ 2-1 win over the Lilywhites in the FA Cup. He scored eight times in 50 appearances and would later join Ipswich on loan from Blackburn in 2015. He sealed a permanent move to Suffolk after his original loan spell and, in total, played 46 times for the Tractor Boys and scored five goals.

ATT: Lee Chapman Striker Lee Chapman was a part of the 89/90 Leeds United squad who won the Second Division and the First Division in 1991/92. He scored 80 goals in 172 appearances over the course of three and a half seasons and made the move to Ipswich in 1994. He scored one goal in 25 appearances for the club and briefly returned to Leeds on loan in 1996 but played just two games. ATT: Rob Belfitt

Belfitt began his professional career with the Whites back in 1964 and was a part of the side that won the 1968 League Cup. The striker made 75 Leeds appearances and scored 17 goals before directly joining Ipswich in 1971. He spent one season with the Suffolk side and scored a total of 19 goals in 46 games in all competitions.
