We take a look through the players who have worn the shirt for both clubs

Away days return for Leeds United on Saturday, August 12th at St. Andrew's as the Whites prepare to take on Birmingham City.

Ahead of the fixture, we take a look back through the years and pick out some of the players who have featured for both sides.

GK: Gareth Sprake

The Welsh shot-stopper began his career with Leeds United after being scouted playing for Swansea Schoolboys. He played for the Whites from 1962 til 1973 when he made the move to Birmingham City. He played 381 times for Leeds and made 16 appearances for Birmingham.

DEF: Noel Blake

Leeds secured the signature of Blake from Portsmouth in 1988 and was apart of the squad that achieved promotion the following season to the First Division. Before his time at Portsmouth, the defender made 96 appearances for Birmingham City from 1982 to 1984 over the course of two seasons.

DEF: Paul Robinson

The experienced defender made over 500 senior appearances in all competitions with Watford, West Brom and Bolton before he signed for Leeds United on loan in March 2012 from the Wanderers. He played 10 times under Nail Warnock during his time with the Whites. Robinson joined Birmingham City ahead of the following season

DEF: Byron Stevenson

Stevenson joined Leeds United in 1972 and made his first senior appearance for the club in 1975. The Wales international went on to make 110 appearances and score five goals before departing for the West Midlands in 1981. He played over 100 times for Birmingham City and left the club in 1985.

MID: Andros Townsend

Former Tottenham winger Townsend made the move to Yorkshire on loan in January 2012. During his short time with the club, he made 7 appearances and scored one goal. Only one month later, Townsend swapped the loan deal for Birmingham City in February. He made 16 appearances in all competitions for the remainder of the 2011/12 season.

MID: Jermaine Pennant

Pennant signed for Leeds United on loan ahead of the 2003/04 season and was a first team regular, featuring in 36 league games and scoring two goals for the Whites. The following season, he originally joined Birmingham City on loan but his move eventually became permanent in 2005. He played 60 games and scored three goals for the Blues.

MID: Adam Clayton

Midfielder Clayton originally joined Leeds on loan from Manchester City and after only two league appearances, he signed a permanent deal with the club. He went on to make 50 appearances in all competitions for the Whites and scored six times. Clayton made the move to St. Andrew’s in September 2020 and played 14 times for the Blues before being released in November 2021.

MID: Lee Bowyer

A Leeds United icon, Lee Bowyer spent six and a half seasons with the Whites and and racked up 55 goals in 265 appearances during his time in Yorkshire.  After spells with Newcastle and West Ham United, Bowyer joined Birmingham City on loan from the Hammers in January 2009 before his move was eventually made permanent. In total, he played 94 times for the Blues and scored 12 goals.

ATT: Tyler Roberts

The third Welshman in the list, Roberts joined Leeds from West Brom in the summer of 2018 and played for the next four seasons with the club before joining QPR on loan for he 2022/23 season. He featured 108 times for Leeds and scored 9 goals. Roberts joined the Blues in June 2023 and has so far made one appearance for the club.

ATT: Robbie Blake

In January 2005, the striker joined Birmingham from Burnley but his time with the club only lasted until the end of the season, he scored two goals in 13 games for the Blues. He soon signed for Leeds United in the summer of 2005 and would go on to score 20 goals in 87 games in all competitions during his time in Yorkshire.

ATT: Jimmy Greenhoff

Born in Barnsley, Greenhoff began his career with Leeds United and made his debut as a sixteen-year-old in August 1963. He finished the 1963/64 season as part of the squad that finished as Champions of the Second Division. The forward scored 33 goals in 137 appearances for the Whites and left the club in 1968 to join Birmingham City. The Blues paid Leeds £70,000 for Greenhoff’s services and he would spent just once season with the club, playing 36 times and scoring 15 goals.
