Leeds United take on Yorkshire rivals Sheffield United on Monday evening as Daniel Farke’s men face off against the Blades at Elland Road.

Ahead of the game, we have taken a look at the players who have represented both clubs and selected a Starting XI from those who have worn both shirts.

GOALKEEPER:

Paddy Kenny

The shot-stopper initially signed for Sheffield United on loan in 2002 but the deal was soon made permanent when he cemented his place as the Blades’ first choice ‘keeper. 318 appearances and eight seasons later, he moved to QPR in 2010. After his spell in London, he made the move back to Yorkshire where he joined Leeds United. He played in every league game in his first season and departed the club in 2014 with a total of 81 appearances to his name.

DEFENDER:

Jayden Bogle

The current Leeds right back joined Sheffield United in the summer of 2020 from Derby County. Over the course of four seasons, he racked up 103 appearances and found the net on 12 occasions. Bogle played in both the Premier League and the Championship with the Blades before putting pen to paper to sign for Leeds United ahead of the 2024/25 campaign. So far, the 24-year-old has 32 appearances and three goals to his name for the Whites.

DEFENDER:

Matthew Kilgallon

Kilgallon came through LUFC’s youth academy and made his professional debut with Leeds United back in 2002. Before signing for Sheffield United in 2007, Kilgallon played 95 games for Leeds and scored three goals. He then went on to feature for the Blades on 124 occasions and scored four goals before departing the club in 2010.

DEFENDER:

Vinnie Jones

Jones signed for Second Division Leeds United from Wimbledon following the conclusion of the 1988/89 season. The defender became an integral part of the Leeds side who returned to the top flight as champions as he made 45 league appearances and netted on five occasions. He played 53 times in all competitions before signing for Sheffield United the following season. The defender played 41 times from 1990 to 1991 for the Blades and scored two goals.

DEFENDER/MIDFIELDER:

Jamie Shackleton

The Leeds United academy graduate began his footballing career with the Whites and made his debut as a substitute in a 4-1 win over Derby County in August 2018. He went on to feature 94 times and score two goals in all competitions. The versatile player departed his boyhood club in the summer to join fellow Yorkshire side Sheffield United where he currently has 12 appearances to his name for the Blades.

MIDFIELDER:

Tony Currie

The former England international signed for the Blades back in 1968 and became an icon at the club, making 376 appearances in eight and a half years at the club, scoring 68 goals in the process. He made the switch to Leeds United in 1976. Currie spent three seasons heavily involved with the Whites and scored 16 goals in 124 games before leaving for QPR in in 1979.

MIDFIELDER:

Michael Tonge

Tonge started his professional career with Sheffield United and went on to become a fan favourite at the club between 2001 and 2008. He achieved promotion to the Premier League with the blades in 2006, made 302 appearances and netted 24 goals before leaving for Stoke City. The midfielder linked up with ex-Blades boss Neil Warnock again when he signed for Leeds on loan in September 2012. His deal was made permanent in December and he went on to play 76 times for the club and score five goals before departing in 2015.

MIDFIELDER:

Bruno Ribeiro

Portuguese midfielder Ribeiro signed for Leeds from Vitoria FC back in 1997 and played two seasons in the Premier League with the Whites. He was heavily involved in his first season at the club but after picking up an injury he struggled to reclaim his place under David O’Leary. Overall, he scored six goals in 52 games and made the switch to Sheffield United in 1999. Ribeiro played 22 times in his first season and made only eight appearances the following year as he failed to secure a first-team spot with the Blades.

FORWARD:

Brian Deane

The striker signed for the Blades from Doncaster Rovers in 1988 and went on to achieve consecutive promotions with the club in his first two seasons. He also scored the first ever Premier League goal with the Blades in 1992 before leaving at the end of the season for Leeds United. Deane had three separate spells with the Blades, his second came after his four seasons with LUFC in 1997 and his third and final spell came towards the end of his career during the 2005-06 campaign. Overall, he made 271 appearances and found the back of the net 144 times during his three spells with the club. Deane also had two spells with Leeds, the first coming in 1993 where he represented the Whites until 1997 under Howard Wilkinson and George Graham. The striker returned to Elland Road for the 2004-05 season where he memorably scored four goals in a 6-1 thrashing of QPR. He finished his time at the club with a total of 201 appearances and 45 goals to his name.

FORWARD:

Mick Jones

The legendary Leeds United forward began his career with Sheffield United in the early 1960s. He scored 76 goals in 172 games over the course of five seasons with the club before making the direct move to Leeds in 1967. Under Don Revie, Jones became a legend during his time at the club, winning the First Division, FA Cup, League Cup, Charity Shield and Inter-Cities Fairs Cup. He ended his career with Leeds in 1974 at the age of 30. Jones scored a total of 111 goals in 313 games for the Whites.

FORWARD:

Billy Sharp

Sharp came through the ranks at Sheffield United and made a couple of first team appearances in 2004 before signing for League One side Scunthorpe United. After two successful seasons with the Iron, he returned to the Bramall Lane for a fee of £2 million but after two full seasons he departed for Doncaster Rovers. Sharp had spells with Southampton, Nottingham Forest, Reading and Leeds before returning to Sheffield United for a final time in 2015. In his final spell, he gained promotion from League One and promotion to the Premier League, becoming a Blades icon in the process. Over his three spells, he scored 129 goals in 377 appearances. During the 2014-15 campaign, Sharp had one season at Elland Road where he scored five goals in 35 games.
