Gyabi

Leeds United welcome Plymouth Argyle to Elland Road on Saturday as we take on the Pilgrims in the Sky Bet Championship.

Ahead of the fixture, we have taken a look through our history and selected a Starting XI of players who have featured for both sides.

GOALKEEPER:

Graham Stack

During his days with Reading, Stack was sent out on loan to Leeds United during the 2006/07 season where he competed for the starting position with Neil Sullivan, Tony Warner and Casper Ankergren. He played 12 times during the season and return to his parent club at the end of the campaign. Plymouth Argyle signed the shot-stopper on a permanent deal in 2008 but played just six times before being released at the end of his first and only season.

DEFENDER:

Scott Wootton

Ahead of the 2012/13 campaign, Wootton signed a permanent deal with Leeds United and he spent the next three years of his career with the club. He played 74 games and scored one goal for the Whites and departed Yorkshire in the summer of 2016. After a spell with MK Dons, he signed for Plymouth in 2018 where he played 84 times in three seasons in both League One and League Two.

DEFENDER:

Peter Swan

Swan was capable of playing in both defence and attack throughout his career and turned professional with Leeds United in 1984. He made his debut under Billy Bremner and went on to play 58 games as both a centre-half and centre-forward and left the club in 1989. After spells with Hull City and Port Vale, he made the move to Devon to sign for Plymouth Argyle in 1994. Swan spent one season with the club where he scored two goals in 27 games.

DEFENDER:

Shane Lowry

During his time with Aston Villa, the defender was sent out on loan to numerous clubs in the EFL, two of which were Plymouth and Leeds. In fact, Lowry played for both sides in the same season during the 2009/10 campaign. He first joined the Pilgrims where he played 13 games before he was recalled by Villa. However, he was shipped out on loan again in the new year to Leeds. Lowry featured in 12 games as LUFC went on to secure promotion back to the Championship.

MIDFIELDER:

David Norris

Norris initially joined Plymouth on loan in 2002 but the deal was eventually made permanent for an undisclosed fee. He achieved promotion to the Championship and won the club’s Player of the Year award during his five-year spell with the Pilgrims. Overall, he made 243 appearances and scored 28 goals. He later made the move to Leeds in 2012 where he played 36 times in three years before leaving for Peterborough United.

The midfielder came through the youth academy at Leeds United and made his competitive debut in 2004. He scored three goals and featured 33 times in the Championship in his debut season but struggled to find a regular starting place the following campaign. He left the Whites in 2006 and later joined Plymouth Argyle in 2008. Walton featured in both the Championship and League One with the club as he racked up nine goals in 67 appearances.

MIDFIELDER:

The 20-year-old made the move from Manchester City to Leeds in July 2022 and made his debut in the EFL cup four months later against Wolves. The midfielder signed for Plymouth on loan in January 2024 and later returned to the Argyle for a second loan spell the following season and is currently on loan at the club under the management of Wayne Rooney. Gyabi currently has five appearances to his name for Leeds United and has featured in 24 games for the Pilgrims.
