Ahead of the game, we take a look back through the years and pick out a starting XI from the players who have worn the shirts of both clubs

GOALKEEPER:

Scott Carson

The former England shot-stopper began his career with Leeds United and made three Premier League appearances during the 2003-04 campaign before being snapped up by Liverpool in January 2005. Fast forward to 2015 and Carson had made the move to Derby County. He remained with the club until 2019 when Man City signed him on loan. The goalkeeper played 171 games for the Rams.

DEFENDER:

Jayden Bogle

The current Leeds right back joined Sheffield United in the summer of 2020 from Derby County. Bogle began his career with the Rams and featured heavily for the first team in his first senior season in 2018. He spent two seasons playing regular football with Derby and departed after the 2019-20 campaign after making 90 appearances and scoring three goals in all competitions. After a spell with Sheffield United, he put pen to paper to sign for Leeds ahead of the 2024/25 campaign. So far, the 24-year-old has 22 appearances and three goals to his name for the Whites.

DEFENDER:

Tony Dorigo

In 1991, Dorigo made the move to West Yorkshire to sign for Leeds where he won the 1991/92 First Division title in his first season with Leeds. Overall, he spent six seasons at Elland Road and scored 5 goals in 208 games for the Whites. He then had a stint with Serie B side Torino before moving back to England to sign for Derby County in 1998. The full-back spent two seasons with the Rams, racking up 49 appearances and scoring three goals before departing for Stoke City in 2000.

DEFENDER:

Danny Mills

Signed from Charlton in 1999, Mills played 141 times and found the back of the net on four occasions for Leeds United over the course of four seasons. Fast forward to 2008 and Mills was back playing in the Premier League but for Derby County on loan from Man City. However, his time with the Rams was short lived as he sustained an injury and returned to his parent club shortly after. Mills played three games for the club and announced his retirement from the game in August 2009.

DEFENDER:

Stephen Warnock

The former England international signed for Leeds United during the 2012/13 campaign. Over the course of two and a half seasons, Warnock scored three goals and featured 67 times for the club before leaving for Derby County in January 2015. He made sporadic appearances for the Rams and over the course of two seasons he played 30 games.

MIDFIELDER:

Seth Johnson

Johnson received a call up to the England senior squad whilst playing for Derby County in 2000 and also had two spells with the Rams. From 1999 to 2001, he featured 73 times and scored two goals for Derby before Leeds secured his signature in October 2001. Injuries restricted Johnson’s playing time and made 59 appearances in four years, scoring four goals.The midfielder later returned to Derby for a second spell in 2005 and helped the club return to the Premier League in May 2007 but sustained a knee injury which later finished his playing career. Overall, he played 130 games for the Rams and netted six times.

MIDFIELDER:

Bradley Johnson

Between 2008 and 2011, Johnson played 140 games and scored 16 goals for Leeds United. He also achieved promotion from League One in 2010 with the Whites. Johnson departed the club in 2011 and joined Derby County in 2015 after four years with Norwich. He remained with Derby until 2019 and racked up 14 goals in 140 appearances for the Rams.

MIDFIELDER:

Michael Tonge

In September 2008, Tonge was snapped up by Stoke City but was sent out on multiple loan spells whilst with the Potters, one of which was with Derby County in 2010. Tonge played 19 times and netted twice during the his time with the Rams before signing on loan for Leeds in 2012. His loan deal was made permanent in December and he went on to play 76 times for the club and score five goals before departing in 2015.

MIDFIELDER:

Eddie Lewis

In June 2005, American Eddie Lewis signed for Leeds United from Preston and became a cult hero at the club during his two year spell. He became known for his set pieces and racked up 96 appearances and netted nine goals for the Whites. After dropping into League One, he played in the opening game for Leeds but Derby then came calling for his signature. The Rams were in the Premier League at the time and Lewis went on to feature 24 times for the club before departing at the end of the season to join LA Galaxy.

FORWARD:

Patrick Bamford

During his Nottingham Forest days, Bamford was sent out on loan to Derby during the 2013-14 campaign and he scored eight goals in 23 games for the Rams in all competitions before returning to his parent club. Leeds United secured his signature the summer of 2018 and he went onto become top scorer in the promotion season back to the Premier League in 2020. Overall, Bamford currently has 60 goals in 196 games for the Whites.

FORWARD:

Bobby Davison

Davison played in the Third, Second and First Division during his time with Derby as he helped them climb the divisions in the 1980s. He netted 98 goals in 239 appearances in his first spell and the he later returned on loan for the 1991-92 season, he added a further eight goals and 10 appearances. He signed for Leeds in 1987 and went on to become part of the 1989-90 promotion winning side and left the club in 1992. Overall, he scored 35 goals in 110 games for the Whites.
