Leeds United trio Sean Longstaff, Daniel James and Illan Meslier sat down earlier this week to watch the recent video produced by LUTV about Foundation participant, Pepe, who is part of our Fit Generations programme, and they wanted to invite him and the rest of the group to Thorp Arch for a special bespoke session ahead of Christmas.
In keeping with the spirit of family and bringing joy to people at this time of the year, the three first-team players were keen to invite Pepe and his family to the training ground to show him that we really are one big family, after his tough year losing his beloved wife, Christine.
Sean, Daniel and Illan warmly welcomed Pepe and handed over his very own Leeds United shirt, before they all made their way down to the indoor pitch where they sat down with the rest of the group and took part in the chair exercises they would usually do at the Elland Road sessions.
These seated exercises help work older adults towards improved mobility, balance, coordination and strength, but are open to all ages, such as Pepe’s family who were also in attendance.
To conclude the session, the players and group members had an opportunity for some photos and conversations amongst themselves with an extra special visit from Willy Gnonto who was able to speak with Pepe in his native language, Spanish. Each of the players were able to learn more about the importance of these sessions to the individuals who take part, and what the Leeds United Foundation means to them.
Fit Generations is held weekly at the stadium, delivered by coaches from the club's official charity. If you would like to book or find out more information, please email [email protected].
