Pascal Struijk: It's one point forward

Pascal Struijk West Brom

"One point in the right direction" was Pascal Struijk's thoughts on Saturday's 1-1 draw with West Brom, as Leeds United picked up seven from a possible nine against top six sides recently.

Chatting to LUTV, Struijk reflected on the draw, saying "It was a good start, we quickly got the lead. I think it was really important that we started brightly, especially after the last game [against Sheffield United], where we were a little slow after 20 minutes, before we started to get going.

"I felt like this time was a little bit opposite, they scored the goal and had a little possession spell, it was difficult for us to get the ball and they played some good football.

"Second half, I felt like we were dominating most of the game but didn't finish our chances, so it ended in a draw."

Asked whether the excitement and emotion of the previous two games, where Leeds came back to defeat Sunderland and Sheffield United in the final minutes, had created a hangover effect on the players, Struijk would play this down.

"No, I don't think so. The last two games have been quite emotional, we gave a lot, but we managed to push until the very end and create chances. It's just unfortunate we didn't put it in the back of the net.

"[Late comebacks] shouldn't be a normal thing, the fact it happens is really good because it shows that we are ready and fit for the full 90 minutes, but the quicker we can finish games off, the better for us."

"Sometimes when you draw these games, it almost feels like a loss, as you want to take all three points. One point, is still one point forward, still one point in the right direction, so we'll see what happens with the other results."
