Leeds United playmaker Pablo Hernandez spoke to the media ahead of Saturday’s Premier League opener with Liverpool.
The Whites head to the reigning champions, in what will be the club’s first game in the top-flight since 2004.
Hernandez spoke about his emotions ahead of the fixture and what he is expecting in the upcoming season back in the Premier League.
“Everybody in Leeds feels excited now,” said Hernandez.
“16 years is a long time for this club and now we have a good chance again to put this club where it belongs in the Premier League, fighting with the big clubs in this country.
“I think the players, staff, everybody in the club and especially the fans are excited because in a couple of days we will start the league with a big game.
“This is the place everybody wants to be and now we have a big challenge in front of us.
“We know the difficulty of this league and how difficult it is for teams who have just been promoted, but we have a big confidence in the group, along with a couple of new players who can improve the team a lot.
“We need to give everything in this challenge, because the fans deserve for this club to do a good job in this league.
“For us it is important to start with a good performance, we know it will be very difficult to take points from Liverpool, the Premier League champions and Champions League champions two years ago, but you never know.
“Sometimes people say it is better to play against a team like this in the first games, we need to prepare, but the most important thing is that we focus on our team and the things we can do on the pitch and try to show everybody that we will be prepared to compete against the big teams.”
