Leeds United Under-21s travelled away from home on Friday night to face Brighton & Hove Albion Under-21s at the AMEX Performance Centre.

The Whites got their Premier League 2 season underway in style, with a hard-fought and impressive victory against their South Coast opponents.

Under-21s head coach Michael Skubala gave his reaction to seeing his side battle to victory.

He said: "I thought it was a really good first half, we stuck to the plan tactically very, very well.

“Brighton are a really hard team to play against, but I thought we did that well. Even though we went in drawing the game at half-time, I felt we had the better chances and could have been ahead.

“After they went down to 10 players, usually that would suit you, but it is always hard to play against with the new challenges that brings, but I felt the players managed that really well.

“I told them at half-time that we had to stick to our plan, but put a bit more speed into our game and credit to the players, they did well and got the win.”

Skubala went on to further credit his team for the way they organised one another on the pitch, offering instruction and guidance to each other as the match progressed.

“We’re working hard with this group on how we improve their leadership,” the coach stated.

“One of the biggest challenges for young players is to step up and lead in the game, which they did, I thought we were very vocal and managed the lines well.

“We’ve got some good characters in there who are playing well and have confidence, which helped them to get the result.”
