The match officials for Wednesday’s EFL Cup Round Three clash with Chelsea have been announced, with Jarred Gillett set to take charge at Stamford Bridge.
The experienced Australian referee is now nearing 100 Premier League encounters since switching from A-League football in his homeland and earning his stripes in the EFL.
That has included two matches to date this term – Manchester City’s late opening day victory over AFC Bournemouth and reigning champions Arsenal’s 1-0 triumph at Aston Villa.
The Whites have a mixed record from the 11 games overseen by Gillett, winning three of those and drawing on five occasions. Six of those encounters came last campaign.
Most recently, the 39-year-old officiated the 1-1 draw at Tottenham Hotspur towards the end of the season where Dominic Calvert-Lewin was on target from the penalty spot for United.
Chelsea, meanwhile, have won seven and lost two of their 13 matches the referee has taken charge of, including the Blues’ 1-0 victory over the Whites in April’s Emirates FA Cup semi-final.
Running the touchlines are Neil Davies & Steven Meredith with Robert Madley appointed as Fourth Official. At this stage of the competition, VAR is not in use.
