Leeds United’s Under 23s side can claim the Premier League 2 Division 2 title this evening, when they face Aston Villa.
With a 12-point lead over second place Stoke City, Mark Jackson’s side need just the one point to clinch the title and win promotion to the Premier League 2 Division 1, in their first season at this level.
“We’re feeling confident,” Jackson told LUTV ahead of the match.
“We’re trying to normalise it as much as possible, we want it to be a normal game and like we prepare for every game, to go out and get the three points.
“There’s a lot of talk on the outside but in our camp and within our group, we’re trying to normalise it and make it just like a normal game where we are prepared to go and win.
“The lads are fully focused and looking forward to it.”
Jackson stated that the team are fully aware of what they can achieve, but the focus will be on the match as they go there looking to play their usual game against a Villa side with a point to prove.
“Nothing has changed really,” Jackson explained.
“Of course there will be that little bit of buzz about it because the lads know they are within touching distance now of securing a title.
“We’re under no illusions, this is going to be a tough game. We beat them earlier on in the season and they will want to get one over on us, to stop us achieving our goal.
“They are still fighting for the play-offs as well, so it’s an important game for them. I expect a really, really tough contest from our point of view but the lads have prepared well.
“We know how we can hurt them, we know the dangers they pose to us, so we’re fully prepared for it.”
