Leeds United Under-18s head coach Mark Jackson spoke to LUTV ahead of Thurday’s FA Youth Cup tie with Hull City (7pm).

The Whites, winners of the competition twice in 1993 and 1997, host Hull City at Elland Road in the third round of this year’s competition.

Jackson gave his thoughts ahead of the tie with the Tigers and what the competition means to the club and the players.

“We’re at the time of year where the FA Youth Cup comes around and it is an exciting time for the players, they always look forward to it and it will be a good occasion,” said Jackson.

“This is one of big cup competitions and here at Leeds United in the club has had good success and victories in the FA Youth Cup.

“It’s a chance for us to go and emulate that, it’s a chance for the players to go and achieve something.

“It’s nice to have a home tie at Elland Road, it’s the first time we’ve had that in a fair few years, so hopefully the players can play in front of a few fans and put a performance in to try and progress us to the next round.

“The players have the opportunity to impress on a big stage and this is somewhere they are ultimately trying to get to- playing in front of a full house at Elland Road week in week out.”
