Marcelo Bielsa gave his thoughts to the media after seeing his side put in an excellent display at home to Southampton, winning 3-0.

The Whites moved into 10th place with the three points, which were secured with second half goals from Patrick Bamford, Stuart Dallas and Raphinha.

Speaking after the match, the Leeds United head coach discussed his views on the game.

He said: “In the second half, being able to score so quickly opens up the game.

“The difference of three goals is bigger than the differences of performance between the two teams.

“We had to put in a big effort to not allow them to dominate, then to dominate in the moments in which we did.

“Even if our offensive game was good, because we managed to create double the chances of the opponent, the transmit of the game was alternate.”

The defensive effort against experienced Premier League forwards secured an eighth Premier League clean sheet of the campaign, with Diego Llorente returning from injury to play the full match.

“Our defensive game is a collective,” Bielsa explained.

“Our forwards do a lot of work so it is less difficult for our defenders to recover the ball, but evidently Diego Llorente is a player with hierarchy.

“In a game like today when the opponent used different forwards and the majority of them with quality, it was very necessary his contribution.”
