Leeds United head coach Marcelo Bielsa spoke to the media following Sunday’s defeat at Cardiff City.
Goals in either half from Junior Hoilett and Robert Glatzel ensured the Whites made a losing return as football got back under way in the Sky Bet Championship.
Bielsa gave his thoughts on the game and was disappointed his side were unable to capitalise on Saturday’s results.
“It was a good opportunity for us, but we couldn’t take advantage of it,” said Bielsa.
“We think, for all the possession and control of the match we had, we could have created clearer chances.
“Physically, the team ran well and all of the requirements the match gave, the team overcame.
“Naturally, we could have won this match, but we paid for the mistakes we did.
“Sometimes it is difficult to avoid mistakes, but in this match we could not avoid the consequence of our mistakes.
“Usually, it is very difficult if you have two mistakes in 90 minutes and receive two goals.”
Bielsa also spoke about the stoppages in play which occurred throughout the match at the Cardiff City Stadium.
He said: “We played few minutes in this match if you consider substitutions, interruptions to drink water and when the referee stopped for injured players.
“It is one of the matches where I think we played the fewest minutes, but it is like that.
“We should know and we should accept that usually you play 60, 65 minutes, but in some matches you play fewer minutes than this.
“We didn’t win the match, it was not for the interruptions and for the few minutes we played, there are other reasons that we didn't win the match.”
