Marcelo Bielsa has held his pre-match press conference, prior to Saturday’s Premier League clash with Chelsea at Elland Road.

Here we look at five points made by the Leeds United head coach ahead of the upcoming fixture.

On the last two matches…

“I thought they were avoidable defeats that we were beaten by teams who weren’t superior to us on the field but to convert what you deserve into results is the job of a manager in general. In the game against Aston Villa we created one chance in the second half which we dominated the whole half. The critic that we had over our own game was to convert the possession into danger. In the second game we created seven goalscoring opportunities in the second half and we didn’t convert any. The critic is that we need to be efficient to capitalise on the danger we create.”

On Kemar Roofe winning the SPL with Rangers…

“I follow how each player that has passed through here is doing. I am very happy that Roofe is able to win the league in Scotland and I regret that he is not able to participate in the last games because of a muscular problem.”

On 1,000 days in charge at Leeds United…

“I always think I am going to stay forever in all the jobs I take. I go from day to day thinking I will be here the rest of my life but at the same time, it’s a profession that has interruptions.”

On Bielsa’s former players turning to coaching roles…

“If you look at Pochettino, he says he doesn’t think he represents my ideas which I think is true. He has his own ideas from which my point of view are better than mine, that indicate that to have managed a coach who is successful doesn’t represent and doesn’t mean you have influenced his career as a coach.”

On Pascal Struijk…

“The response I must give is the progress of his evolution will show us when he can return to competition. Given the injury that Pascal has, it is not a serious injury because various other players including himself have played with this injury, this is why I say it is not serious. Whilst he’s not needed urgently, I prefer that he has more time to recover completely.”
