Leeds United have made a competitive start to life back in the top-flight, collecting eight points from their opening seven Premier League encounters.

Prior to the international break, Daniel Farke’s side put in an impressive display at home against Tottenham Hotspur but came away empty handed despite Noah Okafor’s first-half finish.

Speaking about the start to the new campaign, iconic defender Lucas Radebe has been encouraged by the Whites’ displays and believes there is still more to come from the team.

“It is a great start,” the Chief exclusively told leedsunited.com. “I think if you just come back to the Premier League and you make such a good start, you give yourself the chance.

“We can build up from that. I mean it is still early days in the season but the more we can get results, I think the better.

“I know we have got tough fixtures coming up and now no game is easy but I think the way the boys have turned up at the start of the season, it is absolutely great. I hope that they will continue or they will improve from that.

“I think after watching them last season, you could see that we have got a good team. It was important for us to start well and continue investing in the club so that we can stay up.

“It is a long season, a tough season and if you want to compete here, we need to have strength and we need to have depth in the team.

“We can only give ourselves a chance by competing, trying to make sure that we win as much as we can. There are plans at this club to make it bigger and better.”

The legendary South African returned to Elland Road for the fixtures against AFC Bournemouth and Tottenham Hotspur.

Now an official ambassador at the club, Radebe discussed what coming back to West Yorkshire and continuing his long-standing association with Leeds United means to him.

“It is absolutely amazing. For me, it is a great honour to be able to still play a part at the club and be remembered and revered in the way that the fans do when I come here.

“It is always exciting and I looking forward to mingling and this time, it has brought me even closer to the community, to the fans and working with the Foundation.

“It is something that I believe is going to grow. For a club as big as this, it needs that because of the support base.

“The stadium itself, just walking in here is absolutely brilliant. You know, it brings back memories and I would have loved to be able to contribute on the pitch now.

“These are the memories that I will live with forever. Being here and being closer to the fans and players is an honour. For me it serves as an inspiration.”
