Leeds United hosted a special event recently as part of the Unlocking Potential project alongside local community group Hamara.

The club and Foundation held a 49ers Watch Party at Elland Road, with members of the local community group invited to attend and meet 49ers Hall of Famer Frank Gore.

Working within the community sector and now employing over 20 staff, Hamara currently delivers several different strands of work including: Health Promotion, Youth Activities, Older People’s Services, Saturday Supplementary School, Learning Disabilities, Education, and Employment & Training Programmes.

Ahead of the watch party, members of the Hamara group also had the chance to meet 49ers Hall of Famer Frank Gore at Elland Road before the Sky Bet Championship match against Burnley.

The following day, participants of the programme were then welcomed back to Elland Road for a stadium tour, where they consumed fascinating insights about Leeds United from experienced guides.

In the Norman Hunter Suite, all attendees gathered in front of the big screen to watch the San Francisco 49ers take on the Minnesota Vikings, a game that ended in a closely contested 23-17 defeat for the 49ers. In addition to the match, an American-themed hot food buffet was made available for the beneficiaries.

Frances Milner, CEO at the Leeds United Foundation, said: “The Unlocking Potential project is an important programme for the Leeds United Foundation over the next three years. Our aim, in partnership with the NFL and the 49ers, is to engage 3,000 children and young people in fun NFL Flag Football coaching sessions whilst having a focus on improving their physical and mental wellbeing, providing greater access to education and ultimately setting them on the path to fulfilling their potential.

“We are delighted that Hamara are partnering with us on this initiative and were able to join us at the 49ers watch party.”

The Humuyan group leader added: “A huge thank you to Leeds United Football Club and the 49ers for allowing us the opportunity to attend the watch party. The feedback has been amazing, everyone loved the opportunity, and the gifts given - it was a real-life experience.”
