Today marks World Obesity Day and the Leeds United Foundation have been showing their support for the annual event through their various health and wellbeing programmes.
World Obesity Day is an event that recognises that obesity is a global problem, and it can affect anyone. There are currently 800 million people living with the disease, with millions more at risk. For more information around World Obesity Day, please click here.
The Leeds United Foundation currently deliver a number of different programmes as part of the Health and Wellbeing pillar, including Fit Fans, Walking Football, Working Out Together and Fit Generations, some of which are free for participants to take part in.
Coaches from the club’s official charity deliver these sessions every week throughout the local community to support people who need help with their physical and mental wellbeing, to try and encourage people of all ages to make small lifestyle changes that will improve their lives.
This week, ahead of World Obesity Day, the Foundation launched a number of new weekly sessions as part of their Working Out Together initiative. All of the sessions are just £2 to attend, with membership options also available, and these are the sessions being delivered every week:
- Monday, Walking Club, 6.30pm to 7.30pm
- Wednesday, Circuits, 6.30pm to 7.30pm
- Thursday, Soccercise, 6.30pm to 7.30pm
- Friday, Bootcamp, 6.30pm to 7.30pm
Ahead of our upcoming fixture against Norwich City on Sunday 13th March, members of staff from the Foundation will be based in the concourses at Elland Road to promote the various Health and Wellbeing programmes that are currently running. Supporters will be able to find out more information about Fit Fans, Sporting Memories, Fit Minds, Walking Football, Working Out Together and Fit Generations at the dedicated stands, with representatives from Leeds Cancer Awareness also joining them to raise awareness around Prostate Cancer Awareness Month.
