Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Phillips spoke to the media following Sunday’s victory over Burnley.

Patrick Bamford’s early penalty secured Leeds a second home victory in a row at Elland Road, after a 5-2 victory over Newcastle United.

Phillips was pleased with the outcome of the match, as the Whites saw off Burnley’s push for an equaliser.

“Obviously last week was a disappointing week for us and a disappointing game, but we came out today,” said Phillips.

“In the first half the first half we played a little bit more football than in the second half, but we knew it was going to be tough.

“Burnley are a side who play very direct and I think we’ve done well to keep a clean sheet today.”

Phillips was seen in a back three for large parts of the match, as Leeds looked to combat a two-man Burnley attack, as he has done on previous occasions throughout Marcelo Bielsa’s rein.

He spoke about that role, in which he helped the Whites keep a fifth clean sheet of the campaign.

He said: “I don’t mind it, I get a lot of the ball.

“I’m a defensive midfielder, so I like seeing the game in front of me as well.

“I enjoyed it, but I obviously like to play in my normal role as much as possible.

“With me coming in and playing at centre-half and Pascal Struijk coming in and doing very well, it is good for the back four/five that we have got a clean sheet and especially our goalkeeper Illan Meslier as well, so we are very happy.”
