As the world continues to reel from the recent death of George Floyd in Minneapolis; the club, staff and players united behind the Black Lives Matter movement this week, posting black squares on their social media accounts whilst sharing their own experiences.

Talking openly about his own experiences with racism, Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Phillips discusses why he hopes the protests will bring justice, understanding and equality to communities around the world.

"Obviously I'm very moved by what's happened over in America with the protests and the movement that's going on.

"I think it's the start of something new, the way it has grown and expanded from one country to another is incredible.

"Everyone has come together and are fighting for justice for what has happened in the last few years and the decades before.

On the topic of being racially abused, Kalvin said "No I think I’ve been lucky - maybe because not many people know that I’m black."

"But I've got friends and family that sometimes can't walk down the street without being given a dirty look or sit out in their front garden because neighbours will shout towards them, treating them with no respect whatsoever.

"It's very painful for me, my family and people that I know."

With replies of "Don't mix sport with politics" or "All Lives Matter" cropping up across the world, Kalvin explains why for him, it's important that sports people use their platform in the search for equality, and how supporting one cause doesn't play down another.

"Football is the biggest sport in the world. As professional footballers, not just as black footballers but as any race or religion, I think it's massively important to try and get this across, for people not to treat us as though we're any different. We're all the same."
