Kalvin Phillips has given his thoughts on the start to the season for the Whites, whilst looking ahead to Saturday’s clash with West Ham United in the Premier League.

The Hammers arrive at Elland Road having had a productive start to their campaign and will be tough opponents, as the Whites look to get their first win this season.

The match will also see Phillips come up against his England teammate Declan Rice, and the Leeds midfielder feels it will be a ‘battle’ between the close friends.

"It’s going to be fun, it will be a battle,” Phillips stated, ahead of the match.

“It will be nice to see him as well, I haven’t seen him for a few weeks now. I don’t think we’ve missed each other too much, but it will be a good game!

“We know West Ham are doing very well this year and we want to get our first win, so we are looking forward to playing against each other.

“We still message each other now and again to see how things are going so it will be good to see him.

“We will have to try and stop him from playing, which will be a very difficult job.”

Assessing the start to the season, Phillips told of the fine margins within matches as they look to get the first three points on the board.

He said: “I think it has been difficult for us.

“We’ve played three teams in the top six. When you look at the results we’ve had, the first game of the season was disappointing for us.

“Then we played Everton, then Burnley where I felt we should have won, and the Newcastle game was there for us to win but we couldn’t quite get there.

“It’s just a matter of building up everything in fine margins and not losing concentration to get our first win, and we’re looking to do that against West Ham.”
