Leeds United Under-21s grabbed an important two points in their National League Cup campaign, overcoming local outfit FC Halifax Town on penalties at The Shay.
Versatile attacker Joe Snowdon grabbed the second of the 2-2 draw in normal time in predatory fashion as he bundled home from close range, before stepping up from 12 yards out as Scott Gardner’s side beat their National League opposition.
Speaking after the match, Snowdon was pleased with the result and highlighted the importance of the competition for the team’s development.
“We are buzzing obviously to get the win,” the forward told LUTV, after the penalty shootout victory.
“Obviously, it was frustrating with the late goal at the end to not get the three points, but we get an extra point winning the penalties, so it is positive in the end.
“I told the coach I wanted to go first, to set the tone and if I score, then we are on the right track. So that is good!
“We can take a lot from these games, playing against men’s first teams. It is a different type of game to Under-21s because it is more physical and it sets us up for men’s football.”
Snowdon, having picked up an injury setback before the new campaign got underway, has impressed on his return to the squad and is delighted with his performances back out on the pitch.
“Obviously, it was a frustrating time right at the start of the season and in pre-season, just getting my feet going and to pick up an injury was frustrating.
“But I am back now, two full 90s in a couple of days, so hopefully I can build on from now and keep progressing.”
