Leeds United are delighted to announce the loan signing of central defender Joe Rodon.

The 25-year-old Wales international joins the Whites on a season-long deal, from Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur.

Rodon came through the ranks with his hometown club Swansea City and following a loan period with Cheltenham Town, went on to make his debut for the club in August 2018, helping the Swans defeat Preston North End 1-0.

From that point he established himself in the side at the Liberty Stadium, making a total of 27 Sky Bet Championship appearances, helping the side to keep clean sheets in 11 of those.

In September 2019, Rodon earned his first international cap for Wales, playing 90 minutes to help his country defeat Azerbaijan 2-1.

In Swansea’s 2019/20 Sky Bet Championship campaign, Rodon made 21 appearances, helping the South Wales outfit reach the Play-Offs.

At the start of the following season, after helping Swansea keep four clean sheets in the first five matches in all competitions, Rodon was snapped up by Tottenham Hotspur on a five-year contract.

He made his Spurs debut 10 days after joining the club, in a 1-0 away victory over Burnley.

Rodon was allowed to join Ligue 1 side Rennes on loan last season, where he made 22 outings in all competitions, helping the club reach the knockout stages of the UEFA Europa League and finish fourth in the French top-tier.

With Wales, following his first international call-up in 2019, Rodon has won a total of 37 caps.

He was at the heart of the defence to help Wales qualify for UEFA Euro 2020 and also helped the Dragons make history, when in June 2022, they qualified for the FIFA World Cup for the first time since 1958.

Rodon played in all four of Wales’ UEFA Euro 2020 matches, helping them reach the last 16 of the tournament, whilst in Qatar at the FIFA World Cup 2022 he also started all three matches.

He now links up with international teammates Ethan Ampadu and Dan James at Elland Road.

Becoming the club’s fourth arrival of the summer, following the signings of Ampadu, Sam Byram and Karl Darlow, Rodon could make his Leeds debut in Saturday’s Sky Bet Championship visit to Birmingham City.
