Charlie Cresswell and Joe Gelhardt took part in an online session with Our Lady Primary School ahead of the 2020/21 season ending to chat with young students about their backgrounds and the experience of winning the Premier League 2 Division Two title.

The pupils and teachers at Our Lady Primary have a close relationship with the Leeds United Foundation through the Premier League Primary Stars initiative, and they wanted to congratulate the Under-23 duo for their fantastic achievements throughout the recent campaign by welcoming them onto the Zoom call singing Marching On Together and waving Leeds United scarves and flags.

The young Leeds United stars spent time chatting with the children following a training session at Thorp Arch, telling them about what it is like to play for the club, how they have developed under Marcelo Bielsa and detailing their footballing journeys so far along with their hopes for the future. During the call they were also on hand to offer tips and advice on how the students can reach their own goals by continuing to develop, work hard and enjoy themselves.

Mrs. S Flaherty, who is Headteacher at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Primary School, thanked the Leeds United duo for inspiring the students during the call, she said: “Can I just say on behalf of everyone at the school that we have been so excited today. We talk about perseverance and great role models with our students everyday and to see you both on here, and the way you’ve reacted to each of us has been fantastic.

“Thank you very, very much from all of us and keep on doing what you’re doing.”

The Leeds United Foundation deliver a number of different sessions with pupils at Our Lady Primary School every week along with over 50 other local primary schools, helping teachers and supporting students to ensure they are engaged in learning by using the power of sport and the power of Leeds United. Whether it is Physical Education, PSCHE, English, Maths, Art or any other subject, coaches are on hand to offer support where it’s needed to get the most out of youngsters whilst also helping to improve their confidence and skill level at the same time.
