James Trafford vs Sunderland Oct 26 action

Leeds United goalkeeper James Trafford shared an insight into how much the blustery conditions on Wearside impacted his side’s display after playing out a stalemate with Sunderland.

The stopper continued his impressive form with a series of notable saves, including smothering a Brian Brobbey effort early on as the Black Cats’ forward raced through on goal, and spoke to Sky Sports following the full-time whistle.

“It was obviously extremely windy. The conditions were a bit much, to be fair. It is one of them games that both teams were fighting. We had some great chances at the end and we always finish really, really strong. On another day, we win.

“We tried to keep the ball a bit flatter but the wind was all over the place. Sometimes the kick went long and sometimes it held up – it was a bit mad.”

While the Whites were forced to settle for the goalless draw, it is now another clean sheet for the second-best defence this season, in terms of goals conceded. Trafford has been integral to that and made a number of crucial interventions in both halves on Wearside.

Reflecting on the team’s strength at the back and his place in it, the England international added: “I am obviously pleased. It is just a product of trying to win every day.

“And the more days you win, the better chance and better position it puts yourself into to play well. So, I just continue to try and win every day.

“I have really enjoyed playing week in, week out again. It is amazing playing for Leeds and just feeling the love from the fans and the lads in front of you. Whether the starters or the finishers, they are brilliant. I am just really enjoying it and so is everyone else.

“We need to score more and concede less. We are trying every day to improve that. So, we will just keep trying to edge on and improve it.”
