On his Leeds United debut, James Trafford had the perfect view as Anton Stach curled home a late winner in front of the travelling supporters.

The Whites had to battle hard at the City Ground and they did just that, with our new number 1 also having to be on hand when required to keep the scores level.

Speaking after the match, Trafford said he always felt the Whites could win the game and praised the support from the stands.

“It is a brilliant start to the season for us all,” the England international began. “To win 1-0 coming here with their new manager, the City Ground is always bouncing, let alone for the first game of the season, so yeah, it is a brilliant result for us.

“I always had to stay switched on but it was a lot of fun out there. I enjoyed the game, it was brilliant. But yeah, I just had to stay switched on and when I was called upon, I had to be ready.”

Down the opposite end of the pitch, the ‘keeper had a better view than anyone to witness the winning goal and the celebrations that followed.

“There were Leeds shirts everywhere, it was a brilliant away end. And it was amazing seeing when Stachy scored the winner, so yeah, it was a great day for all the Leeds fans.

“I always believed that we were going to win because of the nature of how we are as a team. We can score from anything, we are a real threat when we get dead balls, when we get the ball wide, when we get the ball in the middle.

“So I always believed that we were going to score! Our aims are to just have a right go and give it the best shot we can, then just take it game by game.”
