Whipping in a dangerous cross for Leeds United’s second goal against Newcastle United was James Justin, originally not credited with the assist until the header was later awarded to England international striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin.
Daniel Farke’s side produced some scintillating football to cruise past the Magpies and continue their unbeaten start to the Premier League campaign, but despite the impressive display the versatile defender is confident the best is yet to come.
“It is not our limit,” the 28-year-old exclusively told Premier League Studios. “I definitely think there are a lot of areas in the game where we can be better and I have seen us be better as well in training.
“But that was a grown up performance, definitely, from us and it shows how far we have come from last season in comparison. This year we stamped our authority. I feel like people have that confidence now and they should, to be honest, because a lot of our players are top players.
“We have got quite an older side of squads in terms of average age but none of us are too old. I would say a lot of us are quite mature and understand football, whether it is their 10th season in Premier League football or their second. I feel like everyone feels like they belong.
“On the ball, there is still a lot we can work on but to be honest, if you look at every game, it doesn’t matter whether you are Real Madrid or PSG, there is still stuff on the ball that they can be better at. We want our base to be obviously an aggressive, high-pressure team with that never-say-die attitude.”
Under the lights on Monday evening, the famous ground was at its very best, deafening from the off and playing more than its part in driving those on the pitch to victory. Ahead of Crystal Palace’s visit to West Yorkshire on Sunday afternoon, Justin is hopeful for more of the same from the stands.
“Obviously, we know we have got an advantage at Elland Road. We have the 12th man behind us and it does give you that extra few per cent that you might need to get to the ball that is a yard away or in a 50/50. We know the crowd love it and we love doing the dirty work as well.
“We know it will be a bit of a different game than the Newcastle game – a different formation, press or whatever. So, we need to adjust on and off the ball but I back our management staff to make the right adjustments. Hopefully we can go into it with the confidence that we showed on Monday night.”
