Captaining the Whites in the second half against RB Leipzig was defender Jaka Bijol, helping his team to an impressive 2-0 victory over the Bundesliga side.
Goals either side of the break from forwards Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Lukas Nmecha brought a third successive win for Daniel Farke’s men, after previously beating Sunderland and Liverpool.
Speaking after the full-time whistle at Elland Road, the Slovenian international gave his thoughts to the media, discussing how the summer’s hard work puts the squad in good stead for the Premier League opener.
“You feel more confident going into the season but it doesn’t bring us points,” he began. “We play for the points two weeks from now. When the real stuff starts, in Nottingham, you have to be ready for that.
“Of course there are hard opponents and everything but I feel like the real games are always a little bit different. Everyone gives maybe a little bit more and all the tension that comes with it, it is natural.
“We will just continue working like we do and playing like we do. I think the young lads showed a lot this pre-season as well. The whole pre-season, they gave their all on the training.
“When they are good, then the whole team can work better and better. And like, the older ones have to work good, the young ones as well.”
Having joined the club this time last summer, Bijol also took a moment to reflect on his first 12 months in England, adding: “I am just enjoying it, really!
“Like, I think every step of the way was special for me and I think I grew so much as a player, as a person as well. And I am just going to keep on enjoying it. It is really something special like everyone says.”
