Illan Meslier to leave Leeds United

Goalkeeper to depart club.

Meslier Clap

Leeds United can confirm Illan Meslier will leave the club this summer, upon the expiration of his contract at Elland Road.

The goalkeeper played a big part in the club’s promotion winning campaigns to the Premier League in both 2019/20 and 2024/25 and departs as a two-time champion. He will always be part of our proud history.

After joining initially on loan from FC Lorient in August 2019, Meslier went on to make a total of 215 appearances for the Whites, registering 72 clean sheets.

His first team debut arrived away to Arsenal in the FA Cup in January 2020, with his first league appearance coming in the Sky Bet Championship against local rivals Hull City, with the Frenchman producing four saves in the Whites’ 4-0 win. In the run-in that season, Meslier started 10 of Leeds’ last 11 matches, conceding just five goals to help secure the title.

During the summer of 2020, Meslier’s move was made permanent and the number one jersey was his, with the shot-stopper a stalwart during the club’s three-year stay in the top-flight.

In the 2020/21 season, Meslier recorded 11 clean sheets and was named Leeds United Young Player of the Year for his role in delivering the Whites’ ninth-place finish, with big saves in victories over Everton, Manchester City and Sheffield United.

In 2023/24 he won the Championship Golden Glove and a spot in the PFA’s Championship Team of the Season.

He played an important role, too, in the club’s record 100-point campaign in 2024/25, which saw Leeds lift the Championship trophy once more and return to the Premier League. The Frenchman produced 21 clean sheets in 39 matches.

Throughout Meslier's time in West Yorkshire, he has remained a strong teammate and a constant competitor on the pitch.

Thank you, Illan, everyone at Leeds United wishes you all the best with your next steps and future career.
