Ilia Gruev Community Champion

Leeds United are pleased to announce that midfielder Ilia Gruev has been named our PFA Community Champion for the 2025/26 season, recognising his incredible efforts and his commitment to community projects and initiatives throughout our Premier League campaign.

Gruev was presented with the award by former player Ben Parker pitchside ahead of our final home fixture of the season against Brighton & Hove Albion.

Having recently picked up Bulgaria's Player of the Year for 2025, Ilia continues to also take pride in his responsibilities away from the pitch, having now completed three seasons with the club.

In terms of his community activation and fan engagement, the midfielder has a deep understanding of the significant impact he and his teammates can have on the local community and individual lives, helping to support and raise awareness around important subject areas and show care for those who need it the most.

Ilia has gone above and beyond throughout the season, being on hand to support a number of campaigns with more involvement in community projects than any other player, including supporting Premier League Primary Stars activation events, visiting Martin House Children's hospice, hosting Leeds United Foundation participants ahead of their dedicated matchday, and dropping in at Our Lady's Primary to highlight equality, diversity and inclusion with the Foundation.

Continuing to demonstrate his Community Champion virtues, Ilia also joined the squad for the annual visit to Leeds Children's Hospital to spread festive cheer to young supporters who were in hospital over the Christmas period.

Away from Leeds United, Ilia is also an Ambassador for Community Integrated Care, showcasing what it truly means to him to support those who are vulnerable and less fortunate.

Speaking about the accolade, Gruev said: "I am incredibly honoured to receive The PFA Community Champion Award. When I joined Leeds United I quickly realised this club is deeply rooted in a passionate community.

"Meeting so many amazing people across the city has been incredibly rewarding. As players, we are in a privileged position and it is our responsibility to give back to those who support us through everything.

"Thank you to the PFA, the club and most importantly, the people of Leeds for always welcoming me with open arms. We keep marching on together."

Ilia is a well-deserving PFA Community Champion this year, and everyone at Leeds United are incredibly grateful for all of his contributions to the community.
