Speaking to LUTV after Leeds United were edged out on home soil by title-chasing Manchester City, midfielder Ilia Gruev believes the team showed enough to get a result.
Antoine Semenyo’s goal on the stroke of half-time was ultimately the difference between sides at Elland Road, with attentions now turning to the visit of Sunderland on Tuesday evening.
“We all feel tired but we are more frustrated because I think we deserved more today than to lose,” the Bulgarian international said. “I think we really played a really good game, so aggressive.
“You can see that we all wanted this really much. Also the stadium, unbelievable, I think. So, yeah, it was a good game from us but unfortunately no points.
“It is tough timing to concede this goal because it is like 10 seconds to go. And if you go to the changing room with 0-0, it is another thing.
“But still, I think when we came out, we want to make the game as long as possible. That is only 1-0, maybe to score early or that the game is really close and tight.
“I think everybody felt today that we are one unit, the fans, and we really wanted to even win this game, not only draw to win this game. The fans pushed us.
“We went all in on the pitch. And then, yeah, we can say only thank you that they stayed until the end. Also, after a loss, they stay and they also value what we are doing this season.”
