Funds being raised for WW1 restoration.

Leeds United have tried to play their part in helping to raise funds to help save Yorkshire's WW1 heritage with the mission to restore the Yorkshire trench near Ypres.

Following two fixtures in November, where players wore shirts emblazoned with the Poppy to commemorate Remembrance Day, funds have been raised through various auctions for the shirts for a number of different military charities, to help them continue the great work they are doing.

The shirt worn by winger Gjanni Alioski during the games was auctioned specifically for this cause, as they attempt to reach a huge goal of £100,000 for the restoration project.

The Yorkshire Trench is one of the very few World War One front line trenches, that still exist in their original positions earning its name The Yorkshire Trench.

Until recently the trench was accessible to the public, however the recent wet weather in Flanders has taken its toll, much as it did in the Great War. It is now seriously damaged by the wind, and rain, and help is urgently needed to re-instate the important site. This is part of our Yorkshire heritage.
