Gabriel Gudmundsson believes his international involvement bodes well for his Leeds United return in October.

The defender came off the bench in Sweden's 2-1 Nations League opening victory over Romania and played every minute of the 3-1 victory over Poland. Speaking ahead of Friday's away game against Bosnia and Herzegovina, he said both he and the Sweden squad are in a good place.

"Two wins from the first two games in the Nations League has been very important for us, especially with two home games," he said. "It's important to make Stockholm our stadium, our castle, this is important for us to move forward and travel to away games now with confidence.

"And personally, for myself, 90 minutes against Poland felt very good because of the win but also performance wise. I'm happy.

"My body feels good coming from three good games with Leeds in the Premier League and coming to the camp here with confidence. And like everybody else here in the national team, coming with confidence from the World Cup. Now it feels good. It feels like we're really building from the World Cup and the good games we had over there. Now we've had two very good performances in these first two games."

Gudmundsson's start to the season has not been as straightforward as he would have liked. A hamstring injury suffered during the club's summer tour in America delayed his participation in the 2026/27 Premier League until the third game. But he started the draws with Brighton and Crystal Palace, along with the 4-1 beating of Newcastle United.

"Everyone knows I was injured in pre-season, so it took a while to get the rhythm again," he said. "I'm super happy with the rehab and the coaching staff who also made me prepared for these games. When you play more, you're getting the rhythm and if feels even better. So it's also good to be here with the national team, to get playing time, to be even more ready when the Premier League starts again."
