Leeds United’s Under-18s begin their FA Youth Cup journey on Tuesday night, when they take on Accrington Stanley at Thorp Arch (7pm kick-off).

The Whites enter the competition at this third round stage, whilst opponents Stanley have had to overcome two tough away fixtures in round one and round two, which has seen them set up this clash with United.

An entertaining and hard-fought victory against Hartlepool United in round one saw Accrington edge a five-goal thriller by the odd-goal, before then following that with a 2-0 success on the road against Bolton Wanderers.

Scott Gardner’s Leeds United side come into the match sitting mid-table in the Under-18s Premier League North so far, this season. The side have games in hand on others around them, with four wins, two draws and four losses from their 10 games played up to now.

After not having a match for a while due to the World Cup break and recent postponements, the Whites were back in action at the weekend where they drew 1-1 with Everton, courtesy of a late Ronnie McGrath goal.

Goals have been coming from different areas of the pitch for Gardner’s side so far, with 11 different scorers up to now. Forward Ben Andreucci is leading the charts for Leeds, with four to his name.

For the visitors, having netted four goals in his two previous FA Youth Cup matches, Calvin Harper is certainly going to be a player to watch for the Leeds United defence, whilst teammate Owen Devenport also scored last time out for the Reds.

Stanley have been on a tough run recently, with four losses from their previous five, meaning they have dropped to 7th in the Youth Alliance Group B standings.

However, early season form was strong for John Miles’ side and goals haven’t been a problem, with a whopping 36 scored in just 11 league games. It’s defensively where they will want to tighten up though, as 23 have also gone into their own net in that time.

Kick off at Thorp Arch is at 7pm. The match will be shown on LUTV to subscribers. Live updates will also be available throughout the match right here on leedsunited.com, followed by a report and reaction after the full time whistle.
