Farke: We didn't give one chance away

Daniel Farke Waving Elland Road

Daniel Farke felt like his Leeds United side deserved all three points from Wednesday night's 2-0 win over Norwich City, despite not feeling like they reached their top performance levels.

The Leeds United manager score after just 32 seconds in the Championship clash at Elland Road, thanks to Manor Solomon's early strike, before Dan James sealed the win after the hour mark.

With Wednesday night's clash coming hot on the heels of Sunday's derby win over Sheffield Wednesday, Farke said "When you play once every three days, you have to win this way.

"We didn't give one chance away, I think their expected goals was low, we were rock solid against the ball, scored two goals, pretty good start to the game and we also had several good chances.

"It wasn't our most shining performance. In terms of details, we were a bit slow today, not tidy in our passing, which can be difficult with the amount of games at the moment, but it was more than enough to win this game.

"It was well deserved and exactly how you have to win in January. I was really happy with the clean sheet and it's massive for us to return back to our best defensively."

Whilst Solomon's goal was certainly welcome, Farke also explained to LUTV that it's not always blessing to take the lead so early in the game.

"I was a bit nervous, because sometimes when you score a bit early, you can think it's a walk in the park and then you give 2% less. All of a sudden you have a few unnecessary losses of the ball and the game develops into the other direction. Not today though, because we didn't give anything away.

With 18 goal contributions between them, Manor Solomon and Dan James are proving to be a formidable partnership down both wings, scoring and assisting each other in the 2-0 win over the Canaries.

"We need their quality and their end products. Both got another goal, another assist, so they're in red hot form and long may it continue. We also have our other wingers, Largie and Willy, who are capable of scoring goals, so I have a few options and I'm happy that during this busy period, I can give them a bit of a rest. It's important that we don't risk them, as we have some important games coming up."

A big game now awaits Leeds next Monday, when Farke's side travel to Turf Moor to take on third place Burnley, but the manager was cautious to make sure they didn't look beyond Norwich.

"For me this was the big one today. We're all quite often talking about which massive games are coming up, but each and every game in this league is important. If you don't win the three points today, it's the same as next Monday, so for me, games like this, it's important to finish in a good position."

"Of course you want to win the spotlight games, but to make sure you finish in a top position, this is another day in the office, home games, away games, we have to win the points."
