Everton: Match officials appointed

Appointments made for Monday’s fixture.

Chris Kavanagh referee

The match officials for Leeds United’s Premier League opener with Everton on Monday evening have been announced, with Chris Kavanagh set to take charge at Elland Road.

After gaining experience at the lower levels, Kavanagh took charge of a first Premier League encounter in 2017, as Southampton beat West Bromwich Albion at The Hawthorns.

A maiden appearance involving the Whites came in 2015 for the Manchester-born official. Current first-team member Sam Byram was on the scoresheet in a memorable display at Craven Cottage, helping the Whites to a 3-0 victory over Fulham.

United’s full record when Kavanagh has been in the middle reads eight wins, six draws and nine defeats in 21 matches played.

Everton, meanwhile, have had mixed results from their 16 fixtures officiated by the referee, winning five, drawing five and losing on six occasions.

Most recently, the Toffees were narrowly beaten by Chelsea 1-0 at Stamford Bridge towards the end of last campaign.

The 39-year-old has already seen action once so far this term, overseeing last weekend’s FA Community Shield which saw FA Cup holders Crystal Palace edge past Premier League champions Liverpool on penalties at Wembley.

Also keeping a close eye on events at Elland Road from Stockley Park will be Video Assistant Referee John Brooks.
