Leeds United manager Daniel Farke has today announced his leadership group for the upcoming 2024/25 campaign.

Ethan Ampadu has been named as captain, with Pascal Struijk and Illan Meslier named as vice captains.

Welsh international Ampadu joined the Whites last summer from Chelsea and went on to play an integral role in the side, both in defence and midfield, leading out the team on a number of occasions throughout the second half of the 2023/24 season.

Struijk has spent the last six-and-a-half years at the club since joining from Ajax, progressing from the youth team to the first team setup and he also wore the captain’s armband during the last campaign.

Frenchman Meslier arrived in 2019, initially on loan from Lorient, before the deal was made permanent and has gone on to become the number one goalkeeper for the Whites.

Manager Farke said: “Ethan, Pascal and Illan have all played such a big role in the team since I arrived last summer.

“I believe with all three players we have a really strong leadership group, who are respected by everybody.

“Both Ethan and Pascal proved last season they can handle the responsibility of leading the team and I look forward to them continuing to do so in the upcoming campaign.”

Ampadu added: “It’s an honour to be made captain of this amazing football club, I know how much responsibility this role carries.

“Last season it was a privilege to lead the side out on so many occasions and I’m delighted to have now been given this opportunity.

“I will give my all for the badge and I hope to lead by example both on and off the pitch, following in the footsteps of so many great captains in the past.”
