Leeds United recently launched All Green, All Leeds an initiative to help summarise our approach to environmental sustainability.
The second pillar of the programme focuses on using the club’s platforms to encourage supporters, communities and young people to take action on environmental issues.
From travelling to matches to community programmes delivered by the Leeds United Foundation, the club is already working with fans to promote practical steps that can help reduce environmental impact.
Supporting more sustainable travel:
Travel to and from matches is one of the largest sources of emissions associated with football. The club supports more sustainable travel options for fans wherever possible.
Initiatives include:
- Dedicated matchday shuttle buses connecting the city and stadium
- Park & Ride sites to reduce congestion and vehicle emissions around Elland Road
- Organised coach travel for away games, allowing supporters to travel collectively
These options help reduce the number of individual car journeys on matchdays while making travel to fixtures easier for supporters.
Mobilising fans through national campaigns:
Leeds United has also supported national football sustainability campaigns such as Green Football, which encourage fans across the country to take climate-friendly actions.
In 2025, the club backed Green Football’s Great Save campaign, helping tackle the large volume of sportswear that ends up in landfill each year. A dedicated Green Football Game was held, and donation points were introduced at the stadium to allow supporters to pass on old kit so it can be reused, repaired or upcycled by others.
As part of the campaign, over 50 youngsters were also invited to an exclusive Mystery Shirt Swap event, taking part in an educational workshop around reusing and donating old kit whilst also learning the skill of how to sew. The event was supported by Leeds United Foundation and Ethan Ampadu, who signed up as an ambassador for the sustainability campaign.
Leeds United have also regularly encouraged fans to participate in the Green Football Cup, through which fans are encouraged to make simple changes in their everyday lives, such as reducing energy use, choosing more sustainable food options or reusing sportswear, to score goals and contribute towards the club’s total in a national league table.
Embedding sustainability through Foundation programmes:
The club’s community work also plays an important role in engaging young people on environmental issues.
Through programmes delivered by the Leeds United Foundation, sustainability themes are incorporated into activities with schools and families. This includes workshops delivered through Premier League Primary Stars, which use football to inspire pupils and explore topics such as energy use and environmental responsibility.
Harnessing the power of football:
Football clubs have a unique ability to inspire and connect people.
Through All Green, All Leeds the club will continue to use its platforms - from matchdays to community initiatives - to encourage fans, schools and local areas to take practical action that supports a more sustainable future for us all.
