A place in Round Four of the EFL Cup is at stake as Leeds United travel to the capital to face Chelsea on Wednesday evening.
The Whites kickstarted their journey in the competition with a 2-0 victory over Nottingham Forest at the City Ground, just days after an opening day Premier League victory at the same venue!
Daniel James’ deft second half finish got United off the mark in the East Midlands before a combination of James Justin and Lukas Nmecha managed to scramble home a second, ensuring progression to the next stage.
Since then on league duties, Daniel Farke’s side have earned important draws against Brentford at Elland Road and Brighton & Hove Albion on the south coast.
In West Yorkshire, last season’s top scorer Dominic Calvert-Lewin got off the mark for the new term with a close range finish while it was defender Jayden Bogle tapping home Ao Tanaka’s unselfish pass at the Amex Stadium.
Chelsea reached this stage of the tournament with a comfortable 2-0 home victory over Sky Bet League One outfit Luton Town in Round Two, with summer recruit Danny Welbeck on target for the Blues.
Under new boss Xabi Alonso, the West Londoners began the new Premier League campaign with a 3-2 success over neighbours Fulham at Craven Cottage.
They followed that up by coming out on the winning side of a seven-goal thriller against Brighton but were beaten by reigning champions Arsenal at the weekend.
The Whites’ most recent visit to Stamford Bridge proved to be a memorable one for Farke’s men, coming from two goals down to draw with Chelsea, courtesy of second half efforts from Nmecha and Noah Okafor.
